Sync LotusLive (IBM SmartCloud) files directly to the iPad over WebDAV

In LotusLive* (IBM SmartCloud) users can store files (under Applications > Files).

Its possible to use a WebDAV client on your iPad, iPhone or Android device(**) to be able to use these files. Following the steps in this blog article to configure a WebDAV client and to
download the Lotus Live files directly to your mobile device. In this article we will use an iPad and Goodreader, to my opinion its the best WebDAV client for the iPad.

First you need to install and configure the Lialis WebDAV server software(***) on a Lotus Domino server. (I will explain more later on in this blog).

On the iPad get the Goodreader and press Connect to Servers and choose WebDAV server. Then configure the WebDAV server with the correct URL and credentials.
Under Connect to Servers an entry is displayed with the Name LotusLive. When you click on this entry the Lotus Live folders are displayed, for example My Files and My Folders.

You will be able to see the files inside the folders, but GoodReader does not allow you to open these files, you must download them first to thr iPad.

So we go back to the Folder my files and we press the sync button at the bottom. We can choose a location where to sync the files to, we choose My Documents of the Goodreader. You may set some more options and then please press Download here & Synchronize.

Next the Goodreader will start to download the files under LotusLive My Files to the iPad in order for you to use the files on the iPad in offline mode if you wish.

The GoodReader added this Green button in the Remote Sync. Every time you press this button GoodReader will sync the LotusLive My Files with the Goodreader downloading or uploading new documents added to Lotus Live or added to the Goodreader.

Back tot he Lialis WebDAV server. You need to install this Domino WebDAV software to make above happening. A free one user evaluation version can be downloaded from Lialis download page. Follow the WebDAV stallation instructions.
In the WebDAV configuration db you must create a LotusLive repository as illustrated to the right.

Next step is to create a user in the Domino directory that equals the LotusLive user name, so same credentials. Followed by adding this user in the WebDAV database.

Next make sure that the GoodReader can access your Domino WebDAV server via wireless internet and you should be able to rock and roll.

Of course its possible to expand the number of WebDAV users by purchasing more WebDAV licences.

* Also applicable for IBM Greenhouse

** Other apps and devices supported are:
  • Apple iPad and iPhone iOS apps: Goodreader, WebDAV Nav, iAnnotate PDF, OverTheAir, DocsAs…Note, ReaddleDocs, Keynote, Pages and Numbers.
  • Android apps: FolderSync.
  • Windows programs Bitkinex

*** WebDAV is an on-premises solution for companies to allow users to securely synchronize (download) attachments stored in IBM Lotus Quickr, IBM Connections and Lotus Notes databases with iPad’s, iPhone’s or Android devices over the HTTPS protocol. With WebDAV clients can eliminate the usage of Dropbox like solutions.
